I’m finally taking a minute to write about last weekend! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that my husband surprised me with a (early) birthday weekend trip to NYC! This was actually my first trip to New York – crazy I know! But, anytime we thought about going…I wanted to make sure we had a really fun itinerary and we just didn’t get to it last year. This year, we plan on going a few times for a home show and visiting friends. Anyway, here are a few photos and highlights below from our trip!
NYC Trip via Oh, I Design Blog NYC Trip via Oh, I Design Blog NYC Trip via Oh, I Design Blog NYC Trip via Oh, I Design BlogA few highlights:

– The High Line: since my husband is a Landscape Architect, I think I look at public parks and other outdoor spaces a lot differently than most. I see the paving patterns, the unique benches and the plant selection.  It was also really interesting to see a lot of the new residential buildings going up around the High Line and how a well-designed park can very much create a better community.

– Our Hotel: we stayed at 70 Park Ave. (a Kimpton Hotel) and their staff was phenomenal. They gave me free drinks in their hotel bar and everyone told me happy birthday. They really know how to make a girl feel special!

The Standard Grill + The Modern: we had two amazing meals at these restaurants!

The Top of the Rock: Since I had never been to NYC, we had to do some of the touristy stuff. This was a 360 view of the city from the top of The Rockefeller Center.

For our next trip, we are definitely looking to stay in another area and explore some interior design shops and markets, etc. If you have any recommendations for restaurants, shops, hotels, etc. please let me know! 🙂

Ugh.. nothing more delish’ than brick architecture capture in blk/wht! Beautiful photos and looks like a FAB TRIP!! Happy (early) Birthday!

Thank you so much Kayt!! 🙂 you are the best!

Aw, what a sweet surprise from your husband! Looks like you guys had a great time. The High Line is one of my favorites, glad you guys got to walk it. It’s beautiful in the summertime, too! Lots of pretty flowers! 🙂

Hi Melissa! I am so excited to go back in the summer and see all of the flowers!

LOVE the high line. I try and get to it every time I’m in the city to visit my sister in law. As far as restaurants go, there are so many amazing options! Our personal fave has been The National (Iron Chef Jeffrey Zakarian’s) but have also had amazing experiences at Morimodos, Butter, Beauty & Essex (my new yorker sister in law’s fave). If scones are your thing, Alice’s Teacup is wonderful (although the decor leaves a bit to be desired). Also the Meatball shop. More low key than fine dining, but still some of the best food I’ve had in a long time! I usually go thrifting when I’m there, but one trip I stumbled on Canvas Home and wanted to buy absolutely everything in there. 🙂

Thank you so much for your wonderful recommendations, Karen! We will definitely keep those in mind for our next trip! 🙂 I hope all is well!
